B2 Question #4

I've mentioned several times during class that what we perceive as reality is actually a recreation of "reality" by our senses and our brain. In other words, what we think is real, might not be real at all! So I guess my question to all of you is how does this make you feel? How confident can we feel that the world we experience is actually how the world is? How would we test something like that? Is our "reality" then all that matters in the long run even though our reality might be completely different from another persons? And since all of us experience the world through our own reality, making this very subjective, is there an actual real world out there that we are unable to perceive? Or is reality subjective to the one perceiving? In other words, what is real to us is real, period. There is no need to consider what is actually real because what we perceive is it, nothing more.

Wow, just writing this question has me boggled as well. You can get a serious headache pondering all of this stuff. Anyway, have fun sharing your thoughts about this subject. Don't feel like you need to answer every question.

Our senses are not always reality depending on what we do and how we react to a situation. There are many things out there you think you sense or see but it's all a mind illusion

Our perception is as real as we are going to get. But that perception can change as we grow and mature through our life. as long as all of our senses are functional it is safe to say that our perception is reality.

If the world does look different than how you, or anyone else, perceives it you would never know the difference, so it wouldn't really matter. It's hard to say what reality really is, because everybody perceives things differently, but on an individual level, your perception is your reality, even though it may not be “real” necessarily, it is still what we know as our reality.

Reality is ultimately subject to our own perception. The "real world" doesn't exist. Only what you our I perceive is real. Thus, by the nature of our senses, reality changes all the time. New sensory information creates a new reality for us. This is a constant process. By this, the definition of learning is gaining new information resulting in a new reality. Experiencing new things is literally learning. As we learn and experience, our reality grows, and we can make more informed judgements about our world.

There is a single reality that exists and what we perceive is only a slim portion of that reality. For example, we can only see some wavelengths (red, blue, green) when there is really much more (ultraviolet, radio, infrared). We have adapted this way for a reason- all the information we can't sense is useless. We only need to worry about what we can perceive because we will never be able to see what the real reality is.

Everyone has there own perspective of what reality really is. I belive that you choose what's real or not. For example you get a phone call saying you won a trip to Hawii some might belive that it's real and smart people will obvioulsy will say it's a bunch of balony and just hang up right away.

Whatever we perceive is what is real to us and we have never known a difference because that is the only thing we have known and ever will know. I do think as we grow our opinions change as we gain experience but an orange will always be orange and the grass will always be green (or brown). Everyone also sees those same similar things and so I think as long as we all perceive things similarly enough then why worry if the world is really a different world.

Since what we see is very real to us I accept it as that, if all of sudden we saw things they were hidden before it would definately weird us out and we probably wouldn't like that

I think we all see stuff differently. even thought what we see is real it we all see it how we want to. which is why there is people who are happy about everything and there is people that who turn everything negitetive. it's all how we see stuff.

i think that the thought of this is very interesting. the fact that nothing could be real that i am seeing or feeling. i have thought about this many times and each time it sends my head spinning. there is no way of testing it or even knowing if anyone could be experiencing something that isnt real. i think that we a;ll have had dreams that we thought were truely real but would if that dream never ended like a coma would you just except it if you knew it or try and come out of it?

I think our perception is all that matters. If it's not actual reality.. does it really matter? will we know any different? I think sometimes people think too hard. But everyone has their own reality, and no one knows what reality really is!! it's crazy to think about.

Everyone has different ways of seeing things. The real world is not really a real world. Its what our mind and eyes want us to see.

reality and our perception are all different. Everyone has different ways of viewing things in life. As we go through life things are going to change and reality and our perception are also going to change.things may not be what you would call "real" becuase everyone looks at things different and we can not tell what everyone is thinking or what they are seeing. It would be very hard to run a test to see if everyone percives things beucase once agian evetyone is different and they go through life differently, we all have diffenert things that happen to us that make us percive life through a different way.

WOW those are some great questions....I think our senses help us figure out what things are the best we can. I think we have a pretty good sense of life as we know it, but then again there's probably a lot more that we can't percieve too. People's perceptions can really change a lot with attitude and experience and what you do or don't notice.

We all perceive things differently for the most part. But that doesn't make it not real. Our past experiences effect the way we perceive things. Also as we get older we go through certain experiences in our life which can change the way we perceive things. Our perceptions are reality.

Its hard to say what reality really is. Our brain recreates everything through our own senses so that makes it our reality so it's hard to say if anything is real. But can our reality be the same as the reality of others? I believe this would be pretty tough to test. We are all created differently and each of us has a unique brain which helps us create our own reality. What each of us perceives is different making our reality unique to us. We can choose reality to be real or not.

In my opinion, reality is just what happens everyday. There are some things we have control over and other things we don't. We are not really living if we aren't living to our fullest potential.

Well I guess its really weird to think that we all perceive our on realities I think the reason why we all perceive different realities is because we see stuff that we want to see

This is a question that makes me wonder about how much I have perceived that is real and that is not real. I do not think that there is an actual real world ou there that we are unable to percieve. I think that it does not matter what we percive as long as we can live our lives.

Reality is what we believe it to be it only gets as real as we make it. I believe that as we get older and and we experience different experiences our reality will change along with that. But not everyones reality is the same. Due to the different things we each go through.

Uhhhh did somebody say "The Matrix"?

Sometimes I seriously consider solipsism, and I don't ever doubt it's possibility, but for the most part I live on the assumption that everyone sees the world differently but it is still close enough to be considered translatable; so even though it is a problem, I don't worry about it.

Its kind of crazy to think that reality is so subjective. Everyone perceives reality in different ways, there is no actual reality. A Hallucinating drug addict sees monsters, and that is reality to him. I see my computer and my homework, and that is reality to me. However that doesn't mean that I can say my reality is more correct. Our brains have both created what we see.

This whole question thing made me more confused than ever. But, I think that our reality (at least most people's, if they aren't crazy or anything) is real. And even if it isn't real somehow, it still is to us because it's what we perceive as reality. Then again, maybe "reality" is different to everyone. I don't really know what to think about all this. Not sure if that makes sense but it's the best I've got at the moment...

i think that this is a super confusing question. personally, i like to think that everyone experiences the same things, just because it simplifies things. :)

I do believe that our own reality is all that matters in the end. For one because we really don't know any different. What we see as reality is reality to us but other people might think different. Two it wouldn't make sense to live our life off of someone else's reality. We can only go off of what we know and what we were taught. We were taught our own reality so it would only make sense to live what we know not what we think we know.

I'm pretty sure of my reality. It may not be the same as my neighbors, but its what is real to me. What I perceive is real, end of story. My senses help me though and strengthen my belief, but they are not all that creates my reality. Its our actions, our beliefs, and really all of the stuff we have talked about that influence a person's reality. Mine may not be quite the same as yours, but either way its reality.

This makes me feel confused because everyone percieves the world differently. So if you think youre looking at something one way somebody else sees it in a different way and i think there is no "right" way to view reality.

In my eyes reality is exactly want we perceive. And if it's not then it doesn't really matter because we all think that reality is what we are living in. But really we could be in a totally different place then we think we are. Ignorance is bliss. The fact that i don't know that there is anything different doesn't bug me. And in the end we all have a relatively similar perspective or we wouldn't be able to coordinate so well. Maybe there is a different world around us, but we all see it in a similar way. So it can't make a big difference if there is a "real" world or not. Frankly i don't think there is anything wrong with my perspective.
