B2 Question #3
We just had a good discussion on the topic of free-will vs. determinism. Are we always FULLY accountable for ALL of our decisions? Or are their circumstances or instances where there are factors beyond our control that lessen our accountability? Please explain

There are definitely factors beyond our control because we can't change air into gold, or plastic into charisma; because we are not omnipotent, we cannot be fully accountable for our decisions. But free will only exists assuming there is no predestination or fate, because if a person has a destiny, even if they don't know what that destiny is, the choices they make are only illusions of choices. But since fate is unknown and most likely unknowable, I prefer not to think about it and to act like I do have a choice.
I believe in some cases we are always in control. Maybe not when were little when our parents are making decisions for us and always doing things for us. We all have the ability to make our own decisions whether it be good or bad. But in some cases physical and mental disabilities may take our free will away. Its the situations and people that effect what decision we make.
There are always instances when you have the choice to do something or not, so I consider that free will. I think that a person does not always have those moments because of course, when you're little you cant make your own choices because your parents do.
I think that yes, you are responsible for your actions. There are certain things that can influence your actions, but you are completely responsible for the choices you make. It's hard because your emotions can take over, but that doesn't matter. You still do the things you do. I think people take advantage of that. We grow from our mistakes, and we should take FULL responsibility for what we do. Don't blame it on something else.
There are certain factors in our lives that we have absolutely no control over, such as what other people do, but when it comes to our decisions, for the most part we are in control. Even when there is a point where you feel like you have no choice, you still have the ability to make a choice.
I think for the most part we are fully responsible. But I have no doubt there are things beyond our control. I have an aunt who is schizophrenic, and on her last "break down" (whatever you wanna call it) she tried to beat up a nurse. She is 5'1'' and probably no more than 105 pounds. So there was obviously some force controlling her.
Although we get caught up in the heat of the moment at times, we are and should be held fully accountable for all of our choices and actions. No question about it.
Yes I think that we are always fully accountable for all of our decisions, like murderers do you really think that they had no choice to kill a person for their money? think about it no matter what the circumstance is there is always options. I think determinism is just a lame excuse for people who have no chance in being caught in what they do.

I think we are accountable for out actions. We always have free will I think, even if it gets harder and harder to control, it is still there. If it involves us, our personal selves, I think free will is there. But it could also depend on the situation. There are some cases where exercising our free will could be extremely hard and we may not think we have it. But I think there is at least a sliver of it there.
The ability to make decisions will always be our responsibility. There might be other factors that may effect ours decisions but we still have our free will. No matter what someone has been through, and no matter the choices that person has made in the past there is always a chance to change. The choices people make are their own doing, and nothing can influence us to do something we want to do. No outside influence can solely cause us to make a decision without our permission.
I believe that we will always have free will and that no one can take that away from us. There is always situations that constrict our free will and make it hard but I think that until we have decided, we will always have free will. This topic gets hard when you get in to mental disorders and things like that but I think that if you are consciously making educated decisions there will always be free will and we are accountable for that free will. I think that there is always another way.

I think that there are certain things that we can't control; but the majority of the time we have the free will to decide what we do and how we do it.
Alissa Carlson:
I do think that for the most part that we are accountable for our decisions. There is only one thing that I can think of that we wouldn't be accountable for our decisions and that is if someone is literally forcing you to the point where your life or someone elses life is at stake. Other than that I believe that we are always accountable for our decisions no matter what our excuses may be. Once we have made that decision we always have to live with the consequences, whether they be good or bad.
In some cases there is factors in life that we can not contol, but for the most part we are in charge of our futures. If a person wants to go to a good college and get a scholarship they would have to put in the efford and study and not let the their bad things at home, with friends, or at school affect them.
I think that we are fully responsible for all of the decisions that we make. It doesn't matter what circumstances we are in, we still have the ability to choose.
I believe that we do hAve the choice to pick what we want in this life. But I also think that sometimes there might be times when we have a certain medical condition that make it to where we can't fully be think right which leads us to make wrong decisions and takes our free will away. And if that happens we can't be held fully responsible for our actions.
I think that there are some situations in which you can't make your own decisions. For example, when you are under 18, parents are in charge of you. However, we still have the option to do or not to do certain hobbies. Those are up to us, and we shouldn't do stuff that doesn't make us happy. We all deserve free will.
I think that there are some stuff we do that is out of our control. like if a bug is on you, you natrually jump hit it off. you don't really think about it at all. so i think it's like tha same think with the way you think. there's just some stuff that you do but you don't really know what your doing your just doing it.
We need to take responsibility for our actions. There are definitely things that can influence and affect us, but for most cases we have free will and I think should not make excuses. Some things are just clearly unethical like murder and no matter what is "determining" that, it's still wrong.

I feel that we can't control how others act, but we can decide on what we would like to do depending on our choices. Some stuff are things we can change for the better and not the worst.
Taylor Bradford: I believe in choice. In class we talked about how an alcoholic who pours himself a glass of beer, and just wants to "smell" it but not drink any, may have lost his choice to resist. However, he made a plethora of choices before hand that got him to that point. We can very nearly always choose. Even when we lose our ability to choose, we are still totally accountable because everything is a choice.
we will always be responsabel for what we do. no matter how hard we try to say were not we always are
I think that we do have control over all the things we deside. If we do somthing then its our own choice. If we kill someone because he or she was hurting you then it was your mind controling yourself so i beleave we are always in control.
I think that everyone has free will but there are somethings that we can't do. Everybody is responsible for their actions.
I don't worry about fate, because it happens regardless. I just concern myself with the conscious decisions I make every day.
