A1 Question #6

If you do something immoral while having a lucid dream, when you wake up, should you feel guilty about it?

I guess if you have that big of conscious then technically you should feel guilty cause your still the one dreaming and even controlling that dream. But it's better to do it in a dream than in real life possibly right? ;)

I personally don't think so, because after all, it is just a dream and we aren't doing any harm, but i can also understand the reverse of that. I can see why people would say that you should feel guilty, because in the end you chose to do something immoral whether real or not, you still chose to experience (to an extent) something you felt was wrong. So i don't know, these questions make me think too hard.

Anything that you do in a Lucid dream one chose to do, so in a sense if a person did do something immoral then one should feel guilty. Not to an extreme amount, but one shouldn't think that it is perfectly fine. Our thoughts are who we are and shape our actions. On that line we should feel guilty if that happens.

I do not think you should feel guilty. If you were dreaming it then you were thinking about it. But you did not actually do it in real life!!! I still feel even with lucid dreaming you can't control your whole dream. so I really don't agree with it a whole ton. So what if you dreamed something like that.. because just because you had the dream does not mean your going to do it in real life! We are human and we think things like that. but we should not feel so guilty thats its hanging over our head. Cause in the end its okay cause we didn't do anything.

not at all i mean it's not like its reality your just in a stage to do what ever is in your desire and well i don't think that can be judged as a crime or a bad thing after all its a dream theres no danger or harm involved!

Not at all! Everyone has one dream about something sexual or immoral or something not good. So do they need to be punished for having it even if they don't control it? Everyone wants to do something that they know they can't when they're awake. So, it's a safe way to relieve stress and thoughts. Is it wrong to write your feelings? No. So why is it bad to put out your thoughts in a dream. If you are one of the few that sleep walk in your REM sleep and could actually do damage to people, than I would strongly stay away from that. But if you're normal, I think it's fine as long as you don't do it when you're awake.

To a degree yes, you should feel guilty due to it being a lucid dream and you KNOW you can control it..but I think it boils down to your personality and experiences in life and wither you have been repeatedly exposed to those types of desires and emotions that come into your dream state. To another degree it happens to every single one of us wither or not we intentionally dream about it

I've always been intrigued by the subject of guilt. Why do we feel guilty about things? I feel like it can be for many different reasons. Maybe someone could feel guilty about breaking a "law" established by a society or a "commandment" established by...well...you know who. But I feel like true guilt-honest guilt-comes from within, when we do something that breaks our own "laws". So I guess what I'm getting at is that if someone does something immoral in a dream then they probably should feel guilty, but the personal kind of guilt, not the kind of guilt that's like "I'm getting away with something that I shouldn't be getting away with." If people are restricting themselves from doing something in public because of laws, but then indulge their violent and wild fantasies when they know they are free from laws, then...that's just kind of messed up I think. Acting in a moral manner shouldn't come from the restrictions a set of rules bring, but from within, from somewhere deeper.

i say nope (by the way this is another "are you STILL guilty question). i say you shouldn't feel guilty because your dreaming, you didn't actually do it, you just dreamed it and i dont think your in possession of all of your senses during a lucid dream. you may not even have a conscience during a dream who can say. What you do when you wake up is a different matter and if your willing to do it in a dream, you may just be willing to do it in real life, but thats a different question. So i think that should not feel guilty about your actions during a lucid dream.

I would have to say no. Sure, in lucid dreams you may be aware you are dreaming but maybe not fully aware of how to control it. Your in such a vulnerable state that you tend to give in to what you may subconciously want. Although, if your like me and have an extremely guilty concious, you might just naturally feel guilty about it even though technically it's not your fault.(:

I say yes to a degree. I agree with sensationalhappiness852 when they say that our thoughts determine our actions. If we control our mind to do that in a lucid dream, who knows what someone could do in real life??? It could go either way. It shouldn't overpower your life, but you should not feel completely innocent for your thoughts.

I believe it depends on your personality. If you try to stay away from immoral stuff than your chances are less likely to go in that direction. Where as if you dwell in immoral stuff all the time then you can't really feel guilty. Even if you try to stay away from the immoral things but still dream one I don't think you should feel guilty. I also agree on the fact that you probably can't control everything in your lucid dreams.

Absolutely. Clearly, what you dream is not real and has no everlasting effect on other people. But it really has to deal with morals, as lucid dreaming means you can control your dreams. So lets say you abuse/hurt or even kill someone... kind of morbid, but how could you not feel guilt? After all you chose to do it.

Oh gosh you just HAD to ask this question didn't you Mr.Fong.. Ha ha i just remember how Jenna was so stuck in her mind set when you asked this to the class (: love you Jenna! I think you should be somewhat guilty. I mean hey I don't see any harm being done but it is just more or less funny that you didn't decide to change it..? Umm.. yea. I can't say this has ever happened to me but I would imagine that if it had I would feel a little guilty for it.

I think that because you chose to do something immoral during a lucid dream you should feel some sense of guilt. However if you dream something immoral (not a lucid dream) then you should not feel guilty. Again this is just one of those tricky questions. I think that basically your choices in lucid dreams reflect your character, so your guilt should be focused towards your own character. Because you did not actually do the immoral act.

haha Why do i feel that this question is directed at me?... It depends on the individual. I think that doing something bad in a lucid dream is as bad as thinking of doing the same action. I think that pondering upon immoral thoughts is sketchy. Hence, you see my point.

I don't feel you should, I mean it's just a dream right? Not like you're actually doing the immoral act. Better to dream it then to do it right?

There is no way that no should feel guilty about doing something bad in your dream. Because it is just a dream you aren't actually doing. And you can't control your dream. If you were dream that stuff every night I would go get advice.
